BERTHOUD ó A 16-year-old boy skateboarding in the dark on Taft Avenue suffered serious injuries when a car hit him Saturday night.
Colorado State Patrol Master Trooper Ron Watkins said the unidentified Berthoud boy was skateboarding with a friend about 6:45 p.m. near County Road 10E north of Berthoud when a Mercury sedan hit him.
Watkins said one boy, wearing lighter-colored clothes, was riding on the shoulder. The driver saw him, Watkins said, but didnít see the boy on the road, who was wearing darker clothes.
The injured teen was taken to McKee Medical Center in Loveland. His friend wasnít injured, Watson said.
The driver of the car, a 52-year-old Berthoud man, wasnít injured. He estimated he had slowed to about 35 mph when his car hit the skateboarder. The speed limit in the area is 45 mph, Watkins said.
The trooper said alcohol isnít suspected in the accident.
