Battle of the turf grasses begins
It’s pretty bad when you have to don protective gear in order to mow the lawn because it’s so dry. We stopped watering the back yard more than a year ago because of a broken irrigation system, and, as an experiment straight out of “America’s Toughest Turfgrass,” we now watch in amazement as different species of turf battle for supremacy in a low water landscape.

Design a soothing water garden
When it comes to having a successful water garden, one of the best investments a gardener can make is to buy a fishing license. Planning a water feature to look natural takes a bit of observation of naturally occurring ponds. Water features are popular in many gardens because they offer enjoyment for many senses and add an element of adventure to the yard.

Design a successful garden
I must admit I know next to nothing about designing a landscape. My method of garden design is haphazard at best, involving little forethought or planning. Every bed inevitably takes on cottage garden look, which is a nice way of labeling a mishmash collection of plants that may or may not go well together.

CSU Co-op plant sale to benefit gardening programs
It’s almost time for the annual Colorado Master Gardener and Growing Gardens plant sale fundraiser benefiting these two great programs. There will be many wonderful plants to choose from, including my one, true weakness — a wide variety of heirloom tomatoes.
