Residents of northern Colorado will have the opportunity to see their candidates for Congress side by side this fall.
The three vying for the 4th Congressional District seat — Republican incumbent Marilyn Musgrave, Democrat Angie Paccione and Reform Party candidate Eric Eidsness — will meet in a debate in late September or early October.
A coalition of northern Colorado media members is organizing the event. Coalition members are completing the details of when and where the debate will take place.
While the format of the debate still is being planned, the candidates have all agreed to participate.
Both Eidsness and Paccione accepted the invitation when it was issued July 24. Musgrave campaign manager Shaun Kenney said the congresswoman agreed in principle to the debate on Friday.
Eidsness said he believes the debate will provide voters a view of each of the candidates without the scripts and handlers that are part of a congressional campaign and will allow each candidate to speak from the heart.
Paccione’s campaign issued a one-
sentence statement about the debate: “I’m pleased Marilyn can finally take time away from caving in to special interests and powerful politicians in Washington to debate the issues.”
