Definitely electric! 1. By the time they get around to implementing it, electric options will be a lot more feasible, 2. Gov. Ritter is pro-alternative energy for Colorado (Yes!), and putting up some solar panels to offset the energy used is VERY feasible!
BTW: I agree that Longmont always gets the LONG end by having to stop in Boulder first! Someone should take a look at how Shamrock Shuttle operates to see how it's done!

My preference for FastTracks is to have a train. I don't care what powers it. Either option would be better than each of us driving a car every day!

Electric will always be more expensive than diesel. Electric is cleaner (away from the generation plant)and QUIETER. I would not say electric, no matter what the cost, but it is worth a premium over diesel.

I think we should go diesel, We wouldn't want anyone thinking Longmont is a progresive city trying to fight global warming by using a new technology.
No, we should build more and bigger parking lots to encourage more poeple to use their cars, then convince RTD to get a bunch of diesel buses up here cause we need more particulate matter in the air. I want to be able to see and smell the air I'm breathing

I agree that electricity is the best option - nobody is going to "sabotage the power grid" seriously, it's LONGMONT. Diesel is smelly and costs us more than just money... Also I totally love the guy (or gal) who said "Steam, because it's cool."
Longmont
I don't get the sabotage argument for diesel. First, how likely is it? Second, how critical is it? Third, there are other, easier ways to sabotage trains than cutting off the current - it's not like saboteurs would have no other options.
Longmont
I chose diesel because it would be more reliable than electric. Someone sabotages the power grid, no mass transit.

I don't care if it runs on dilithium crystals; Longmont is getting the short end of the stick on Fastracks. I'm sorry I ever voted for it. I want express trains to Denver via I-25 corridor, not some 2+ hour run-around going thru Boulder.
Longmont
Diesel would be great if we made it from algae, but right now it is from imported oil. The future is renewable electricity, and we need to look to the future - right now. Electricity gives the most flexibility to use whatever source comes along, be it solar, wind or fusion.

  Steam. Just because it's cool.
