LONGMONT — The public is invited to the annual Sunshine Club Tea benefiting local school children in need of routine and emergency dental care.
The event will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the home of Bruce and Kathy Hall, 502 Collyer St. Admission is free and will include a tour of the home. Handcrafted door prizes and a bake sale will be featured.
The annual tea is the club’s only fundraiser.
“The dentists in Longmont have been just superb in giving discounts to these needy kids, and the club has been able to help out,” club member Kay Sandmeier said.
Wednesday’s event will be the club’s 103rd tea.
In the past year, in cooperation with the St. Vrain Valley School District and Longmont area dentists, the club helped to screen students and survey the parents of more than 800 students in 18 elementary schools about dental needs.
Survey response indicated that 197 children needed urgent dental care and, of those, 93 were referred to local dentists for follow-up work in connection with the club’s project.
In addition to raising and donating money for the dental needs of children, club members volunteer their time to work with dentists and school health staff members to make the project successful.
