Those looking for a taste of cultural entertainment should not miss the July 20 ArtWalk in the heart of downtown Longmont.
ArtWalk, now in its sixth year and
held on the third Friday in May, July and September, is sponsored by the Old Firehouse Art Center and 32 downtown businesses. During the multicultural arts event, held between 6 and 9 p.m., businesses remain
open to display a variety of arts.
The event for the whole family will include musicians performing throughout the area, a storyteller, art activities, a balloon artist, a face painter and a sidewalk chalk
mural. A variety of food and drink stands will complete the event.
Barbara Douglass, co-owner of Hard Copy Recycling, has served as chair of ArtWalk for two years. She provides the energy and enthusiasm
needed to pull together and promote an event of its magnitude.
"We moved our business to Main Street two years ago so that we could become a part of ArtWalk," Douglass said. "We love everything that is
happening on Main Street. It is a great place to be and we love the arts."
In addition to her work on the ArtWalk committee, Douglass also serves on the boards of Eco-Cycle and The Old Firehouse Art Center
and is a volunteer for the upcoming Rhythm on the River.
"Barbara is the chairperson, one of the sponsors and cheerleader for this event," said Joanne Kirves, executive director on the Old Firehouse Art
Center and ArtWalk manager. "Each year, she helps us to create a bigger and better event for the community."

for others to follow." — Jerold Panas
